I would like to give a big hand to Jim for his support and finally the parts he is going to send to me.
Ralf
Ralf,
Thanks. I always like to help out.
The associated screws, 52879-S2, as shown in the 67 Mustang Chassis Assembly Manual, AM0020 pg 24, have no documentation (they are not listed in current available reference material).
The screws' part number is valid, but it was declared obsolete, as seen in the 75 MPC, Ill Sec A72.1 pg 5, for both 67 and 68 applications for attaching the AT shift indicator to the transmission "hump". I dumped my 24 oz can (tomato sauce - the can was cleaned before reuse) of unsorted pan head screws and found enough for Ralf to use. I determined that this was the correct screw based on the pictures Ralf provided in e-mails. A picture is worth a thousand words, except
you cannot accurately determine size. Was the screw a number 8 or number 10? I downloaded and printed the picture for measurements. Using the dimensions of the retainer (7E150), I found the size to be 0.185 inch, a number 10. Screw 52879-S2 is also unique. There are a few of this type, pointed drill tip, documented by AMK and Osborn. As an obsolete hardware item, there may have been no information provided by Ford for them to use. That's a void in what Concourse Restoration is.
Ralf,
When ever I see a hardware question, I do some research. I "may" have the brackets. They are C7ZZ-7E150-A (ref 75 MPC Sec A71 pg and are common to 67 and 68. I measure the width at 5/8 inch, length at 1 11/16 inches, mounting hole - 0.215 in dia. I would like someone to verify these measurements.
The associated screws, 52879-S2, as shown in the 67 Mustang Chassis Assembly Manual, AM0020 pg 24, have no documentation (they are not listed in current available reference material). I recommend that the 1968 screws, 52720-S8, be substituted.
The 68 Mustang Chassis Assembly Manual shows the attaching screw as 52720-S8.
That part number is incorrect. If you have the 68 Mustang Chassis Manual (AM0025 pg 47), in the lower right hand corner, change part number from 52720-S8 to 52879-S2, and add this - 10-16 X 1 1/4, Pan 3/8, xrec, pointed drill tip. If you have a 68 Mustang, and don't have a 68 Mustang Chassis Manual, get one.
Jim
