Topic: Rubber transmission line connection to radiator for 65

I did some searching and came up with inconclusive information.  What is the size of the rubber lines that connect the hard lines coming from the C4 transmission to the radiator?  I’m not sure if it’s 5/16 or 3/8.  Also, do the lines run over or under the sway bar?  They are currently running under the sway bar but I think they should be over.

Don't know the diameter - hopefully others will

They were routed typically above the sway bar.

Hoses were changed from woven external coating (with Keystone clamp)  to smooth (with screw clamps) early in production

Length according to Ford was 4" for 6 cyl and 7 9/16" for 8 cyl

Will have to look it up. It was real early and the text likely does not include a specific change over date or I would have had it included in my TSB cheat sheets 

Will drag out the the big thick book and see what I can add to what has already been posted

Curious to see some pictures of this as well.was this only on 65's?  Ive needed replacement lines for awhile. Most replacements seem to have flared ends at the radiator that connect without a rubber line which is my current set up which I never thought was smart without any flex. either way VA classic mustang does have a hose and clamp set however uncertain of what the clamps should look like.

The one with the pedestal clamps is a late May '65 Dearborn car.  The one with crimp clamps is Feb '65 San Jose.

My 5-11-65 San Jose GT Fastback has tower clamps, at least on the tubes that go to the transmission. The replacement radiator end uses worm screw clamps.

I never knew about the woven external coating early in production.  I was also a bit confused regarding the correct clamps.  I learned something new today!  On that note, I put a post on another forum regarding the hose size and the response I got was 5/16".  That makes sense since it looks like 3/8" is installed now and one side leaked at the transmission line with the clamp very tight.  Also, the hose didn't look like it was a snug fit.

Thanks Jeff.  I wonder if my Mustang originally had the early woven hoses.  As best I can tell, it was built right around the switchover date noted in the TSB.  I guess I'll never know but this is really good info for concours restorations.  Do you know if the original style woven hose is available?  I haven't seen it anywhere.  I have to ask if the lack of woven transmission hoses for cars built prior to September 8, 1964 would be grounds for a point deduction in Concours or Thoroughbred classes?

Never had to look for it so not sure. Have seen similar hose out there but at the moment can't recall the application (non- Mustang)

As always allot of details and possible deductions depend on the team of judges and their experiences and knowledge. If they are reading this it's now more likely than before that it could 

So IMHO always build the best/most correct car you can.  If you've done a better job then you should have a level of comfort and be a little more relaxed as the judges go through the process in my experience.

Might have found a place that sells the tower clamps this small.  They are checking the product...
