67 Nj mustang dash and glove box lights?
« on: January 05, 2018, 12:36:53 AM »
Did all of the 67 mustangs come with the under dash and the glove box lights? My car is missing them both! It does have the wire pig tail to plug them in but missing the lights. 67 nj built T code.

Thanks for your help. If Im reading things correct they only came with the courtesy light option? I just looked at my marti report it doesn't list that option. It only list these.

Your vehicle was equipped with the following features:
- Black Vinyl Roof
- Optional Axle Ratio
- 6.95X14-4 Ply Rated White Sidewall Rayon Tires
- Power Steering
- Air Conditioner - Selectaire
- AM Radio
- Tinted Glass
- Wheel Covers
Your vehicle was actually produced on April 12, 1967 -- one day behind schedule

Convertible and Fastback models have different rules (slightly) than your Coupe would, as those (other) models would typically have the under dash lights standard while the Coupe DOES NOT have the under dash lights standard. (nor glove box light as standard).
The "Courtesy Light Option" is a RPO (Regular Production Option) though the components were available for purchase and COULD be installed at the dealer or by an owner. Without the option spelled out on your Marti Report, it would be correct to interpret that your Coupe was NOT originally sold with a glove box light or under dash light (without dealer original sales receipts).
Some confusion or myths suggest that the Decor' Interior option always included these but that myth has been "Busted".
Glove box lights and under hood lights or trunk lights were typically never FACTORY INSTALLED by themselves, they were ONLY part of the Courtesy Light Option. The under dash lights were also not found on COUPES unless the Courtesy Light Option was ordered (and listed on a Marti Report)

That’s a good rundown Richard, thanks. An additional detail is that the Courtesy Light Group option also included a locking glove box latch, matched to the trunk key.  My 67 coupe has the Courtesy Light Group RPO.

For the benefit of others, can you validate that the option is listed on the Marti report?

Yes,

Courtesy Light Group is listed as an option on the Marti report and on the car’s original window sticker.  I can post the Marti report when I get to a computer again.

VIN is 7R01C147___

I hate to change the subject but is there anything rare or different about my mustang? I seemed pretty well optioned for a 6cyl. It does have a clock that I have not see on a lot of other 67-68 mustangs but its not listed on the marti report.

The attached Marti Report lists Courtesy Light Group as an ordered option for my 67 coupe.  Courtesy Light Group for the hardtop coupe includes under-hood light, luggage compartment light, glove box light, glove box lock and under-dash (footwell) courtesy lights.

It is more probable the clock was added at the selling dealership or added by an owner than added by accident on the assemblyline. From a "Concours" perspective, it should not be there if the clock is not on your Marti OR the only other exception would be if you have supporting documentation providing evidence the clock was installed by dealership before delivery of the car's first sale.

+1  A clock would be a very attractive addition made by a PO.  Unfortunately few owners kept any of the original records of their purchase paperwork that might have helped determine if the dealer had added

Restoring to as originally delivered status  (to the dealership) would mean removing it.  Ford was not in the business of giving options and things away for free :)
