The assembly manual shows a circular style clip to attach the lower part of the shift Z-bar to the adjusting rod/pin.  The upper is a slide clip according to the assembly manual and supported by what I've seen on original cars.  Seems strange that the lower one would be different.

Any input?  The car is a late April '68 Metuchen GT350 4sp convertible.

No, it's a circular clip, like I've seen on Hurst shift rods.

That clip, 381619-S2, was documented as being used on all manual transmissions for years 67 thru 70, on the "Z" bar lower end. It's the only application. I know it exists, I have some on the shelf. Being the application in question was a Shelby, that may have had something to do with a different clip being found. As some have asked - what plant? A disclaimer on my part, most of the cars I see on the West Coast are San Jose built.

Posted that in first message of this topic.

I have a fuzzy recollection of something about the Z bar was carried over with '68 Shelby from '67 (small blocks).

Looking for one one of these clips (381619-S2) as it appears to be the correct for my car as well.  Does anyone have a good source for them?

If a GT350 then there is a specific 67 hipo Z bar that was also used on 68 GT350's. I don't know why it was carried over to 68 GT350  because the 68 didn't have hipo exhaust manifolds.

My apologies. I read it way too fast. Sounds like a "hostage" situation.
