Drum brake conundrum 68 390GT
« on: September 14, 2017, 05:33:44 PM »
Took my rear drums off today and to my surprise I have 2" drums and 1 3/4" shoes.

I know all the mustang suppliers list the 68 390 cars having either 2" or 1 3/4" setups.

What should I have on a December built 68 390 GT?

Matt you have the correct set up. V8 Mustangs came with 2 inch drums to utilize with 1.75" shoes. This includes 428 CJ The 2 inch shoe is a 1969 start up for regular Mustangs. Most instances this continued confusion is terminology between drum and shoe itself. If you have dual groove drums that measure 2" they are correct for your car regardless of date.
