Did 69 shelbys recieve the remove tie down sticker on the galvanized rear license plate like regualar mustangs ?
No. The sticker was something done on the Ford Dearborn line. Since the license plate bracket was installed at AO Smith that would preclude it from being installed at Smith. Since the back of the unborn Shelby was all deleted the sticker had to be put in a different spot. The sticker was installed on the back bumper which is the the only thing that would have been on the car when it left Ford. Because of the placement of the sticker on the back bumper , It is reasonable to conclude that even the most inept or lazy predelivery service person would catch it and remove before displaying on the showroom floor or delivering to a presold customer. The rear bumper placement is probably why we only have a handful of vintage factory photographs to document the stickers placement and no physical evidence of the sticker surviving. Because of the almost certainty of the sticker being removed from the rear bumper unlike the somewhat common leaving it on the rear valance of other cars I would deduct points in concours for the sticker being left on the bumper and of course if it was on the license plate bracket.
