SJ wire ties on bumper struts ..... and were else??
« on: August 06, 2010, 01:51:04 PM »
Hello

Just finishing up some items , before dropping the SCJ in the RCode !

I have installed the wire ties on the bumper struts, for the marker/signal wires. (April 69 SJ)

Was a tie used elsewhere on wires  (other wires)?
Mark
P.S.  I want to say I had MORE than 3 also, when disassembling the car (but they might have just been brittle from AZ sun for 30 years)

There is at least one more, in the trunk.  Might also be one holding the license plate wire to the trunk latch assembly but I would have to take a look.  Maybe someone else knows of others but these are all I can recall.

Weren't those cut short at the factory, or were they left long like that?

Thanks guys !  Jack emailed me too.  I was under the front of the car and didn't think it was for the rear.
(cut off the wrong style in the trunk and used the DNO one in the package of three)

Jeff - yes, 3/18/69 build.

Thanks - kind of odd IMHO to see a gray (it appears to be in the picture) luggage protector on a 69 SJ car

Sure that some later owners may have cut them off but most of the originals I've found were left uncut - guess there was no reason to take the time and effort to remove the tail

Jeff - I do have a pic from before I bought the car and you can see the trunk "rib" is pretty clean (like it had a protector) and there is a piece of gray sticking out at the bottom (not sure what that is if it is not the protector, slid down????).  I guess you are suggesting they are usually black?  BTW, my ties on the parking light wires are clipped to about a 1-1/2" long "tail".

I edited the above paragraph to indicate that I am now pretty sure my car had the gray protector.  I wasn't positive that this item might have been installed by me later, but I am now sure I did not add this piece to the car.

I apologize if I am making this about my car; I'm just tryiing to help Mark.

Yes a gray one is fairly rare IMHO on a San Jose built car likely due to different suppliers
