68 Tail light harness wire protectors
« on: April 17, 2017, 12:06:32 AM »
Today I was working on a unrestored June 68 San Jose Coupe. I noticed that the rubber tips on the metal tabs that retain the tail light harness to the top of the tail light panel were missing and instead they had used gaffers tape.  Makes you wonder if they ran out of the rubber tips?

Are they all cover with the same stuff?

We might have other June cars we can to check to see if it was a "thing"  or if its simply a piece of tape someone stuck on a workers back during lunch and he stuck it on a car rather than tossing it in the interior, in the quarter panel or the trash :)

All of the tabs have the gaffers tape on them.  If it were electrical tape I might think it was a PO. Not much has been done with this car since 1980.

Checked pictures of other late 68 San Jose and could not find another like yours. Might be a one off or one a very very few that had an issue or got skipped and caught later down the line and the tape was the fix the inspector came up with at the moment

I would not expect this to be more than a singular or a occasional event. Just found it interesting.

Agree and cool to see it. Now lets see how many copy cats we see on the judging field  ::)

Just for those wanting to know what the correct rubber cover looks like. Here is a example.
