67 AC Line is it correct?
« on: March 21, 2017, 06:19:10 PM »
I am going over the Air Conditioning lines for my Nov. '66 built 67, Select-Aire system and I get the feeling this line is wrong

Thoughts? Jeff, any pictures? I looked a while earlier today and never saw any like this:

I have these two in pictures that I have from restored cars, the red car is obviously different and the green car (Marty's convertible) cannot make it out in the images I have.

My gut feeling is it is incorrect though I remember changing only the hose between the compressor and Condensor and do not recall replacing this one. No Ford engineering numbers found on the hose end fittings, adding to suspicion it is incorrect.

Factory hose has a brass sight glass and the crimped end just behind it is brass also. The factory hoses do have C7 engineering numbers on them also. Richard was that red car at Columbus last year ?

Yes, please. Your 11/4/66 build date is as close as I know of to mine (from this forum) Thanks for the offer!

I took pictures of another 11/02/66 built example I saw at Carlisle last year but felt it was incorrect also. (see pics) It goes in straight as you say yours does.

All pictures anyone could provide would help (if possible). The red convertible S-code car was at Columbus Grand National in 2015 (not last year but boy, time sure flies!) The red convertible looks to have a silver-colored sight glass, I wonder if the sight glass fittings were not originally a zinc-dichromate (gold) color but I believe they were not brass. Hoping other ORIGINAL examples or other restorers could chime in with their knowledge.

Richard,

The best I can offer at the moment is from 7F01C129xxx.  Dearborn, not SJ, and earlier in the year.  But I've got decent pics and it was largely original including the original AC drive belt.  As you know pictures of the wrapped hoses coming out of the firewall can be difficult to get.

Thanks for your pictures John,

So much for hoping I had an "oddball" original! lol!  ;) No surprise in the results so far.

So it looks as though I'll be hunting another pair of suction AND liquid hoses (unless I wish to use the 68 versions I have on hand)

Since I already have a pair of 68 hoses on hand, I have compared these 68 versions to the obscure images of a few original 67 hoses and though they are somewhat similar, they are distinctly different. (when you know the difference)

Perhaps it is time to post a "wanted ad". Marty, I'll await any images you could send to assist in proper I.D. Of the correct hoses I should be looking for to use in this ad.

Thanks again guys, always a good idea to do a little research. Another thread at this site went dead when Scott from WCCC tried to distinguish the early and later (67 or 68) versions known to have been used.

Agree with others. The one hose (solid section) lacks the right number of additional bends and the shorter (steel section) isn't long enough for Cougar and Mustang applications.

Might still be usable to the Mustang crowd if the length is correct (are in good condition) and they swap out the ends for correct ones

These are not original from the car but they match what came off the car and all three have the C7 engineering number. For a refrigerant line the hose part of these are lines are fragile.

Richard I thought back 10 years or so when I restored our 67 GTA I did not know much about concours restoration and I think I used the best hoses that I had at that time. After looking at the 67 tonight I am not sure that the sight glass hose is correct. I'll attach pictures of the 67 and the 68. Sorry I could not have been more help. Marty

The ones in reply #6,#9 are correct for 67 . The rest are not IMO. Marty the red 68 has the correct sight hose also.

Yes that is what I was afraid of, looks like I am now looking for a new pressure line too.

Also note there were different vendors and hoses can have different crimp styles in the same model year. They can be plant specific
