Topic: Voltage regulator wiring

Hi everyone...I've got a question about the wiring of a voltage regulator on a July 67 coupe NJ, 289 non-tach application. From the attached schematic it seems that this car has wires 904 and 35 reversed at the plug to the VR. Could this be the reason the car is not charging?

The schematic is correct.  If your wires are reversed, then yes, the VR won't function properly.

Thank you Midlife. The 67 schematic doesn't show the ammeter - can I assume the 67 ammeter wiring would be similar to the attached 68 schematic? Mark

No; that 68 schematic is incorrect; it contains elements of the ammeter and alternator indicator lamp wiring, as does the 67.  All ammeters require three of the four pins of the voltage regulator to be used (pin I is not used).  The alternator indicator lamp variant requires all four pins to be used. 

Here's the order of wires for the alternator indicator lamp ammeter:
I: blank
A: green/black or yellow
S: green/red
F: orange or white

Here's the order of wires for the ammeter alternator indicator lamp:
I: green/red
A: Green/black or yellow
S: white/black
F: orange or white

This is the second significant error I've found in Ford schematics in the past week.  On 1969's, the Osbourne Electrical Assembly manual shows the starter solenoid 90* slip-on connectors as brown (coil run line) up front towards the battery and red/blue (starter signal) towards the starter/back.

Aargh!  The listings were incorrect per application.  I'll revise accordingly.

Thank you Midlife.  I spent 45 minutes chasing a direct short to ground on wire 37 from the alternator. I was testing continuity.  After chasing wire 37 to the fuse block and finally to the dome light fuse....I realized the door was open and the direct short to ground was the normal electrical path through the dome light circuit. Oh well, I can laugh about it now.

Ahhh....Grasshopper!  It is always best to troubleshoot wiring with all bulbs removed from circuits; otherwise one sees continuity on the order of 1-2 ohms if a bulb is part of the circuit.
