1965 GT Dual Exhaust Questions
« on: March 13, 2017, 06:42:22 PM »
A 65 GT that I acquired for a client has what appears to be a factory installed crossover pipe, which exhaust system components are factory installed, ie, clamps. pipes, hangers ect.  Thank you.

Is this a Metuchen car?

Kind of hard to tell from the pics, but looks like correct snubber plate for dual exhaust.

As to your original questions in the other thread, a crossover/transverse exhaust system would not be factory correct for any GT car.  Transverse was only available on K codes anyway, since that was the only car that could have received dual exhaust at the time.

What's the scheduled build date of your car?

Thanks for the prompt reply Charles.

SJ car, what reference is Q15? I thought it was the build date.

I'll decode and see what pops up, be back in a bit.  I took a video so more information is available if you need it, thanks!

The date is march 25 according to the data plate,  I know a Marti is more conclusive than a data tag but all indications point to a born with data tag, I know the history of the car back to the early eighties.

Here are a few more pics, thanks!

Unfortunately - there are no Marti reports for Mustang prior to the '67 model year.  So data tags (or ideally build sheets) are the best information you are going to get for a 65.

This is a '65 or '66 car?  Would be helpful to have full info.

March 25th would be an early GT for '65.

With all the undercoating on the bottom, it is hard to see anything clearly.

If all you're asking is if the car could have had transverse exhaust, then definitely not from the factory.  The only thing I would say about the exhaust is there is a very small chance the car had an Arvinode setup.  The mounting holes for the hangers in the rear frame rails would be a different location for cars with Arvinode exhaust.

Sorry about that, it's a 65.

A few more questions if you don't mind.

Did GT's come with glass packs?

The tailpipes after the glass packs might be original, how can we tell?

Thanks once again!

Check Scott Fuller's repro dual exhaust here:  www.scottfullerreproductions.com

65-66 Factory GT exhaust included 2 mufflers and 2 resonators.

No.

The pieces that attaches to the resonators are the GT tips and have the original Ford engineering part numbers stamped on them, RH - C5ZA-5C227-A, LH - C5ZA-5D200-A. I don't know what, if or how the turn down tips are identified.
