Parchment pony door panel color match?
« on: February 20, 2017, 02:42:01 PM »
I have a full TMI interior and the door panels are noticably darker than every other piece, even the original door cups. Everything else matches perfectly. Is there a parchment pony door panel that might match better?

Though I do not have Pony interior, my 66' coupe is parchment as well. That does look darker than what I would expect, almost "saddle" interior color???

That panel looks like 1965 Palomino to me! I would check with TMI. Could have been a mistake on their part in packaging.

Sadly they are what TMI sells as parchment. I went to NPD yesterday in hopes I could get a better matching pair and they opened a new box listed as parchment and they looked exactly the same. They aren't quite palomino, but a shade darker than the seats, quarter upholstery and sun visors.

Agreed... That door panel sure looks like Palamino... Certainly NOT Parchment like the seats.

Why don't you try a Pony Door Panel from Mustangs Unlimited?  MU Carries the other vendor Distinctive. The color may be a much better match.  I'd be interested in your findings..

Give it a try... What do you have to lose..? You can always send it back..

its not palomino either. :( This may be a better example along with the entire interior. its just a shade...off. My seat belts are in Texas at Python Restoration being restored, in case you were wondering why they are missing. :)

I bought the rear interior quarter vinyl from NPD when I visited them at their Charlotte store. Same exact color as your door panels, waaay too dark. I later ordered my door panels from Virginia Classic Mustang and the color was a dead on match for the correct parchment! I don't have them handy to check the manufacturer but Brant is always on here and he may be able to provide some insight.

Weird. I know Virginia Mustang carries TMI upholstery. Maybe they carry someone elses door panels? My rear quarter upholstery matches the seats, top boot, sun visors, etc. perfectly, all TMI from NPD.

I ended up dying the door panels.

I used SEM parchment paint from NPD. I did the same process for the Aqua dash pad, starting with a blue one. Both came out great IMHO. Texture doesn't appear affected at all as far as I can tell. I followed the directions for dying door panels following the video below:

1. Wipe down thoroughly with SEM soap and a grey pad
2. Spray and wipe down with SEM vinyl prep
3. Sprayed SEM parchment.

It is too soon to say how durable, but unless you knew they were dyed I doubt you could tell.
