amber 1157 bulbs
« on: January 25, 2017, 09:55:22 PM »
I know the front parking/turn signal 1157 bulbs on the '69 Shelbys looked like they were painted "amber". My question is were the front marker lights have the same coating or were they clear? Does anyone have a source for these or a way to reproduce them?  http://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=3002.msg15936#msg15936

Thanks,

Yes front side marker light on 69/70 Shelby were the yellow from the factory. Not the amber glass type . If you can't find any NOS then you have to paint some with a thinned out matching color paint so that they are translucent when lit.

Thanks Bob, that's what I thought. Anyone know where I might find some NOS bulbs?

Thanks

That is the wrong one because it is the amber glass. It is a replacement not like the assemblyline installed.  The assemblyline one has a yellow coating on the glass similar to paint.

When I tried to register my 67 Shelby in Sweden after buying it in California 1977 they complained the parking lights were amber when the Swedish law said they should be white.
Took the glass off, scraped off the paint on the bulbs with my finger nail and everything was cool with the bureaucrats.

1157A bulb should get you a painted bulb
1157NA would be a amber glass bulb

Not always apparently. In the example reply #3 using that link and 1157A gets a amber bulb.

While the picture of the 1157A shows amber glass here's what the description says (I added the emphasis):

Perhaps the title of the thread is confusing some readers. These are a 194 bulb by parts store look-up so I imagine a 194A should be the bulb type.

The small acorn bulbs in the front side marker are the same painted yellow. They are listed in the Shelby owners manual.

Yellow highlighters work well on them, too.

Yes but the highlighter looks more like the amber glass then the more opaque assemblyline painted .
