Topic: amber 1157 bulbs

tob is asking about the small front side light bulbs not the big park/turn signal 1157 bulb the way I read this post.

Actually Ed, I knew the 1157 was a painted bulb but was unsure about the marker light bulb, but I need both unless someone has a process to replicate the finish. I matched up a close color spray bomb but have been awfully busy and haven't had an opportunity to try it (that is why I haven't got back with you about the screws...soon...).

I think I have the answer to the painted bulbs. I did a quick try  just to check the color and to see if the paint would hold up to the heat and I let them burn about 45 minutes and they still look ok plus they were plenty bright. They look very close in color to Marcus's examples.

Bob, I'm not ignoring you but since I don't have an original to compare the color I have sent Ed a sample to get his opinion. ( I was sending him a package anyway.) Judging from the photo Marcus posted I think it is a pretty close match. I'll let you know when I hear from him.

We do the all the time.  Buy NOS clear 1157s (common) and paint with safety yellow available at any hardware store. Key is color is actually yellow not orange

You're welcome. One think I should have pointed out is to let them dry thoroughly. I let them dry to the touch and tried them to see if the light was bright enough and they looked like the paint would burn off but after a couple of days I turned them on for about 45 minutes and all was ok.

The park lamp assembly was preassembled bulb lens bezel before it was shipped to assembly plant so depending on the vendor make of which brand bulb they used  GE 1157a vs H1157NA that are dated so depending on the bulb the GE bulb (more orangish yellow paint) always falls off the bulb more from age than the other (yellowish )paint bulb brand from what I see. You can tell by which vendor made parklight assembly by changes in the wireing harness as in 69 -70 mustang both years have 2 different wireing types.
