Drums 66 Hertz

Were the drums in the rear blacked out on 66 Hertz cars that came with the Magnum 500's like those for the rally wheels on GT's or did Shelby not bother to and they are left dark gray?

The wheels were installed at Ford SJ not Shelby in 66. The same protocol for deluxe wheels would be followed . Brush painted black face only.

Thanks Bob. I didn't know when the magnum 500's were installed on the car, if that is something Ford did or Shelby did and what they did with the drums.

The information SAAC has (the shipping invoice if they have one) would answer that question. Much of that same information is in the Registry. If you provide a car number I can look it up and that should provide you with the official information

Chris - since the car was originally a Hertz the car was originally delivered with Chrome Magnum 500's. Shipping invoices and info in the registry support that. Just for the heck of it Hertz was invoiced $105.55 for them

Note show that somewhere during the shipping process to FLA the original tach turned up missing :(

Yeah my dad has the claim form from Shelby to the railroad company saying they owe them a tach. He has the replacement tach with the chrome back. So if he ever showed the car he would need to provide the paperwork. Trying to get him to get the car up to MCA to show it next time they are in North Texas

This a good example for reasonable proof. This was done before the first customer took delivery . Many tachs with the black wrinkle housing were replaced with the chrome housing ones after the first customer took delivery. The replacement Cobra tachs typically had chrome cases.  If they got through the first year or so without failure then they typically were good for decades before failing if ever by example of all still in service. A chrome case tach would not be looked at as factory if replaced after the fact even if it was done under warranty after the customer took delivery. Most owners make a big issue over it but the reality is that it is relatively simple to change a chrome housing to the wrinkle finish if so desired.

Very cool that your dad got a copy of that. Before its shown lets talk about introducing that fact/information to the judges and how to "tach-fully" and successfully accomplish  that ;)
