Dear Mustang Owners,

I'm looking for an original Mustang Convertible from the 1964 1/2 - 1966 model year with the D, C, A or K-Code engine. Looking for following factory correct colors:

- Tropical Turquoise
- Twilight Turquoise
- Tahoe Turquoise
- Pagoda Green
- Dynasty Green
- Skylight Blue
- Guardsman Blue

I'm not looking for a car which has to be restored.

Please send me a eMail or call me if you have one to sell, or know someone who could be interested to sell.

Thank you,
Michael

K Code, klar.... 8)
Und nicht nur die Aussen-Farben zwischen 64.5 und 65 unterscheiden sich teilweise gewaltig.
Good Luck!
And it seems money doesn't play a major role ;D
Some basics you need to study before....

Hi Ralph,

Thank you for the Link. I have been informing myself for 1 year about early Mustangs in general and its model year differences.
The colors and engines mentioned are all available eather in 64.5 or 65.

Money matters of course ;-) I know, I will not find such a car for USD 20'000...
So if you know someone, please let me know.

It won't be difficult to find a Convertible for under $20,000.00...except for a K-Code. Your greatest selection will be in the 1965 Model Year with a C-Code engine...plenty of T-Codes also but that's not on your list.

Select carefully and do all the research. Most rust-free models can be found in California, Arizona and Texas but there are also those that were well taken care of in other areas of the country.

Good luck and keep us posted with what you find.

Since I have begun to search for my dream color mustang convertible, I have found only one car matching my criteria. It was in Skylight Blue with D-Code engine. The owner has invested over 100'000 USD, so the asking price was way over my budget.

I have found that there is a K-Code Convertible in Tropical Turquoise with white interior and K-Code engine. This car was sold a few years ago and it would have been the perfect match for me :)

There are still no news concerning my future Mustang convertible. Several months ago I saw this 66 Convertible C-Code in Tahoe Turquoise which is a 1 owner car with low mileage.

Has anyone inspectet this car in California? The Price is USD 37'000, which is 5-10/m above what it should be I think.

Thank you,
Michael

Michael, this cars looks really impressive.!! Price is a bit high I believe, but if you can afford that, it's up to you.
I have recently bought a Dearborn 66 C-code Convertible in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The place is called Garage Kept Motors and I have to say that the place is very reputable and honest. They have many cars with more than hundred pictures of every one. Try to check there if you can find what you are looking for, they have a huge inventory. I still have not my car as I bough it last week, but a friend of mine drove it from Grand Rapids to central Texas without any issue, 1380 miles. Exterior, interior, engine and everything is awesome, and the price is almost half of your California car. Check this place, it's a very good place to deal.
I post some pics for you to see it's condition. By the way, I am the 4th owner.

My Advice, make a standing offer at the maximum you are willing to pay.  Make it clear that your offer is the maximum you are willing to pay with no negotiation contingent on inspection of the car.  You never know what will happen.  They may come back months later and accept your offer.  I've seen it happen.  Then hire someone to inspect the car.

Thank you Mark and Josep for your comments and recomandations. I have a budget which has to include the shipping to Europe and transfer as well as an amount for unexpected work which has to be done.

There are many mustangs in the internet from dealers. The difficulty is to find a matching number car in my favourite colors which comes from a MCA member or car enthusiast who took care of it.

I am very thankful for your help guys :)

I suggest that you take your time - in my experience this means up to a year. Understand (have dealt with many over seas buyers over the years) that with currency fluctuations it can be stressful but it can move both ways.

Don't know the current rules about parking money in a US account but it it may be a option if that is a concern for you.

Agree that an enthusiast car where the owner has moved on or had a change in life focus are often the best deals over the "built to sell" vehicles especially in the 65-68 Mustang  part of the market. Also you'll have to deal with your level of acceptance of how much of the body  can be replaced or repaired.  Season is almost starting so some should be coming on the market  while others (convertibles possibly even more) may wait till summer or even fall before putting them up for sale.

I live 2 hours from Grand Rapids, MI.  Looked at their website--not much for sale in early cars.  Looks like a little bit of everything they buy and sell.

Can someone recommand a serious company which is specialised in inspecting Mustang from the first model years?

I am not in a big hurry buying one, know that i have to be patient. I started to look out last summer and I hope to drive one for the 2018 season :)

Would not use any company to inspect one of our cars unless your just looking for things mechanical. Too many generalist IMHO and you pay for the company (overhead) and the inspector each with their own weaknesses, differing experiences and biases, chosen often based only on their proximity to the car

Some times the company is nothing more than a referring agency taking a cut off the top.  Believe a number of us here on the site have been approached one or more times by this sort of enterprise

With all that said I'm sure there are buyers that have used and have been happy with their purchases using one of these companies.

How should I proceed buying my Mustang convertible without sending a Company to inspect the car? I think, making a decision based just on pictuers is very risky.

Unfortunately, in Europa are very litte good Mustangs for sale.

Unfortunately, in Europa are very little good Mustangs for sale.

Many use individuals in the hobby for this purpose. You can often find someone local or spend the money and have a person of your choice (and their willingness) travel to inspect a car.  Sometimes locals will only ask for gas money while other times it will be treated (like an inspector traveling in) very business like - just depends. There are allot of possible variables just as there would be in using a company. Have seen where companies will provide a single page with their findings while another may use a 5 page (for example) form with simple check boxes covering major areas and a few words to describe

Once you have found someone you feel comfortable with

Outline, beforehand what is important to you, how the information will be communicated (verbal, written or both), what will be inspected,  time constraints, cost of the inspection, how payment will be made and what expenses will be covered.  Any particular requirements required by the inspector should be discussed beforehand.

With the seller you'll want to check to see what is going to be possible.  A short or long drive on public streets, exposure of covered detail, will the car be on a lift or on the ground (no lift available) where and when an inspection can take place?  You want no surprises that can be foreseen  on the day of the inspection

Certain testing will likely not be available if the inspector is traveling, there are limitations so figure out how that will impact how things will go and the amount of information you will have to base your decision on.
