Coil springs color markings -- 69 San Jose F code

hello are there some one there know what color there was used at the color markings on the coli springs on a 1969 coupe

From buildsheets of similar cars it appears to be

1 Red & 1 Gold. Applied to the loops of the coil spring with spring out of the car sitting upside down (from how it will be installed) or on its side so that runs often look like they travel upward once installed. A semi-dry brush was used for the application. Should be a fair number of examples already posted in other threads  but here are three to illustrate

What about the finish On my springs was they painted Black or was they neutral bare Steel 😊

Typically San Jose were bare dark very dark heat treated steel.


When you report that yours were painted black I'm guessing that you confirmed that by stripping some of the black off chemically so that the paint bubbled. Best place to determine this is under the paint marks but I've never gotten one that did that.  The heat treated metal will leave small black dust, minute chips in a clean up pan but this is just the chafing of the heat treated steel that remained on the coils IMHO based on the ones I've seen over the years

i well try too give the paint some paint remover and see if the markings is under the paint. butt maybe they have been replacet. like my upper control arms beacuse they was also black,

Or simple painted over at some point - think you found a clue    ::)

I was found a little bite red paint On it. Butt its NOT easy too see.
