69 Trunk Light
« on: November 08, 2016, 01:51:12 PM »
Seems there are two trunk light locations for my 69 fastback deck lid ?  In the picture at the lower left and, follow the arrow, upper frame.  Plant or option package ?  Any explanation for this ?  Thanks,  Brian

On my car the bottom corner in your pic is where the wire goes inside secured by a loop clamp

So... not two lamp locations ?  The upper, at arrow, is the only lamp location and the lower is for the lamp wire and plastic clamp ?  Brian

Hi Brian,
Yes where your arrow is located, is where the bulb w/ mounting bracket is screwed in. When you took the car apart, there should have been a little gold star type washer that nests between the bracket and the deck lid to create a ground.

The wire is routed to the left of the decklid, down and out the round hole (bottom left). the smaller hole is for the mounting tab that secures the wire to the decklid before going into the trunk.

In the attached unrestored Silver Jade picture, you can see the tab of the trunk light bracket and mounting screw placement inside the decklid.

In the attached unrestored Wimbleton White picture, you can see the routing of the wire out the bottom of the decklid.
Hope that helps!

Does anyone reproduce those white (opaque) clips that are referred to as "Locators" in the Osborn Assembly Manual? I have searched everyone that I can think of and have come up empty handed. Thanks JM

No the clips are not reproduced they can be found in allot of 70s bigger Ford and Mercs check the trunk and the taillight wiring looms for nice ones that haven't been heat soaked or exposed to ones like found in 69 engine compartments Some times in doors also

Actually someone must be making them because they come in the '69 "concours correct" radio antenna kit.  I think I may have seen them separately in one of the non-Mustang parts catalogs like Macs that primarily serves the Galaxie/Torino market.

EDIT:  Found it;

Nice find Jim. Not a big piece but one I'm sure is a sticking point when you need one. Thanks for sharing.

That is kind of like the plastic windshield  washer "tees" that are reproduced . A solid white white plastic instead of the assemblyline translucent white plastic. Good to know if you can't find a genuine one.

Thanks Jeff, Bob and the rest for your help in this! The CMF has been a fantastic resource while I have been restoring my 12-69 Dearborn Boss 302. I would have made so many more mistakes than I have if it weren't for you guys!  :) I'll get them ordered today!

Important to broaden your search beyond Ford wrecks for stuff like this.
The console wiring in my 65 SS is taped to the exact same clip.
They turn up in the various harnesses of lots of different makes and models over the years.

Very true!  I can probably harvest them if anyone wants them.
