68 Reverse Lockout

Quick question - is there a bushing (or anything) between the reverse lock-out flange and the shifter? On reassembly it seems to have a lot of play and I'm concerned about rattle (see pic - round flange type lockout - not T).

Yes, there should be a plastic sleeve there like the 65-7 shift handle.

Bill Healey replaced the insulator grommet on my 66.  To do so, you have to break the solder joint of the lockout cable, but it can only be silver-soldered on again.  That's beyond my skill set.

I think the difference between the earlier models and 68 (not sure when it changed) is the circular flange (held in place with a roll pin that passes through a hole in both the flange and also a piece at the top of the cable) vs the t-shaped lockout which I understand was actually fixed/soldered to the cable. I am able to disassemble the lockout flange and cable without dealing with a soldered joint.

Right, you don't have to do anything with the solder on the '68 handle.

I posted Bill's information last week. He's on Ebay as well. Just look up Ford top loader shifters. He comes up. If you have issues, PM me. I'll give you his phone number and address. He can replate as well as repair factory shifters, even the cable that operates the lock-out mechanism.
