I have Thermactor air pump off the car and repairing a broken-off bolt in the pulley hub, using screw extractor and thread tap or heli-coil if necessary.  As long as I'm doing this, I'd like to find four new pulley mounting bolts with the correct spec.

Any suggestions for obtaining the correct new bolts?  Car has the original Thermactor air pump pulley:  C6AE-9B447-E

First reference to check is Jim's hardware spreadsheets in the Library Section of this site. Do a search on (excel spreadsheets) 20311-S2. It's the same 4 bolts for 289 and 390 applications. AMK catalog lists it on their online catalog, page 32, as a grade 8 bolt, Qty of 3, "B-12682". These are not correct for 66 but may be for 67 and above.
66 smog pulley bolts are the same thread but have RBW marked hex heads, 2 different variations I later discovered.

Hoping this helps you.

Four correct new ones?   Might be a challenge

More likely you'll need to go with replated good used ones from a response to a wanted post or from a donor

For others here are the bolts that are being discussed

Lance,
Thanks for the "plug". The correct part should be a 5/16-24X1/2 hex bolt. There is a difference in 66 and 67 applications' grade requirements however, the 66 is a grade 8 part (42973-S8), the 67 is a grade 2 (201311-S2). This is a wide range of bolt strength and technically could be a problem (finish is not an issue at this time). In any case, only the 66 bolt (42973-S8, AMK B-12682) is available from AMK.
Your post did give the information to the original query, but it also showed me an inconsistency in my database, the description for the 66 application was different than the 67 application so I will correct one of them.

With this picture, I see another variation in head marking. The bolt in question, a 5/16-24X1/2 hex (either 20311-S2 or 42973-S8) has only one application, the smog pump pulley to the smog pump (In other words, I find no other documented use for a 5/16-24X1/2 bolt on Mustangs, any grade). Jeff's picture seems to show three marks on the heads, possibly "R B W", without grade markings. These would be 20311-S2 (42973-S8 is a place bolt). The ones I have are either without any head marking, vendor or grade, or (as I just looked at a couple of pumps) a grade 5 "R B W". I believe the pumps I have are from 66 289 "A" codes. I have no 42973-S8 bolts.
Also noted is the use of a lockwasher, which does not appear on the 66 289 pump. Something else to look into.

Thanks Jim. Well done! I didn't even lookup the 66 ones in your spreadsheets because I'm at work and trying to save some time! Our car originally came with the RBW markings, without the 3 radiating lines (grade marks). I stripped one out a long time ago and the replacements I found were all RBW, with the 3 grade lines. I also ordered those referred to from AMK in my original post (long before I knew of your reference material), and received those in the catalog photo, which I knew were way off. So I ended up going with 2 plain RBW's and 2 RBW's with the grade lines. Just now realized the "2 + 2"....God, how quick I am in my middle age years....!

Deuce,

Yes, Jeff is exactly right...if you need my 3 that I didn't use, send me a PM and they're yours. One will be plain head with RBW, as in Jeff's photo above that Jim posted, the other two will be RBW with 3 lines, radiating from center, (grade marks). Otherwise they look identical. All are well used but very clean, natural finish (zinc plating long gone).

So to admit some embarrassment once again here on this forum (nothing really new, trust me), I made an error in my supply description. What I have on the car currently was as described already and pictured. However, the photo of the 3 separate bolts shows what I have as extras, left over from my year-plus long project of putting all the factory thermactor equipment back on the car finally, and where it belongs...I've been staring at RBW, Rockford and other bolt hex heads for too long lately. I had to pull and re-install the water pump 3 times to finally get the leaks stopped, bunch of bolts that I had to get right and back in their places correctly.... So I had completely forgotten I had 2 plain headed bolts, with one marked with RGB. Lousy photo of this but I'm tired and on my first glass of red wine finally (so things will improve soon).

So Jim, this is a perfect example of you being right again on what you've observed with San Jose cars, what years of personal restoration, judging, all the untold numbers of examples you've seen over the years (naturally, this applies to many of you folks) and why it is so difficult a task to put those spreadsheets together accurately like you've done. I'm both in constant amazement when using them, plus the appreciation that goes along with being able to use these resources intelligently, as you've intended. An incredible amount of work, donated time (and free to us),  I simply cannot thank you enough.

At any rate, Deuce, they're still yours if you want them, just send me a PM telling me where you are and I'll pop 'em in the mail.
Sorry for the long winded comments everyone, while trying to stay on topic.

Now for the important question -
Lousy photo of this but I'm tired and on my first glass of red wine finally (so things will improve soon).
What kind of red wine?

My wife and I had a Turley Contra Costa Zin to celebrate the start the NFL season over the weekend, but tonight we went with a Powers Spectrum Red Wine. Not bad! Our choices vary but are pretty dominant towards the reds...most all of them!

Thank you all for the great information and photos.  The bolts on my car look like the left two shown in Lance's photo of three bolts.

PM sent.

Once again I'm grateful for the wealth of information contained in this forum!

Deuce,

PM received. They'll be in the mail by tomorrow (latest). You should have them in 2-3 days from Washington State.
Glad to help you out! We all love parts going to good homes/cars!

Lance, thank you.  Now it's up to me to complete a successful repair!

I may have mentioned in my comments when I joined Concours Mustang Forum that the '67 C-Code is a one family car; my father special ordered and bought it new in December 1966.  The car has always been in California and as it racked up miles, he'd often sweat the annual CARB (California Air Resources Board) mandated smog check and certification; usually preceded by a tune-up, spark plug and oil / filter changes, and a brisk drive of some distance to "clean it out."   The car is now exempt from smog checks (older than year model 1975 in CA), but as near as I can tell the Thermactor Emissions system is still functioning well.  The system has never been removed from the car (pump, valves and hoses likely replaced over time) and all pieces are there.

Thanks again!
