Grille Fog Light Wiring Grommet 65 GT
« on: September 10, 2016, 03:19:41 AM »
Would anyone know if there was a grommet/s in the grille to protect the fog light wiring when it passes through the grille on a 65 GT
If so would anyone have a pic to show the type/shape of the grommet

Thanks
Peter

Peter,
The hole location, diameter and insulating grommet (C3AB-14603-B) are all shown in the 65 Electrical Assembly manual (66 is the same). That grommet is not available. However, the replacement grommet currently being sold is not like the original, and I don't know if suppliers have corrected their information.

Correct

There is no grommet there. The cable is held relatively straight and close to the housing so no cable protection.

There should be a rubber grommet on the wiring, the same that goes into the outer shell of the fog light housing.  It would be made onto the wiring.

An original 65 Fog lamp housing to under-hood cable assembly has a gray plastic insulating sleeve (non-shrink) to protect the two wires. There is only one feed thru grommet on that assembly, and it is located at the housing. Reproduction cables are incorrect.

I correct my above. There are two insulators, at least on this May 65 San Jose Fog Lamp housing, one for the housing, the other at the grill, over a black plastic sleeve. Note the oversize spade lug on the gray lead for inside the housing connection. I did have to repair the black lead bullet connector at its termination to the ground lead due to corrosion. Somewhere I have another cable assembly and I think it has a gray sleeve.

Perfect
Thanks Jim for going the extra mile and posting the photo
Thanks to Charles for confirming as well

Jim is that your 65 fog light?
Is the sleeve and grommet a one piece moulding or does the sleeve pass through the grommet ie 2 separate pieces

Actually it appears the sleeve passes though the grille grommet and then continues to the fog light housing grommet

Thanks
Peter

You are correct, the sleeve is bonded to both grommets, which appear to be identical but their mounting tapers facing in opposite directions, about 1 1/2 inches apart. The two wires move inside the sleeve. The sleeve itself goes about 1 1/2 inches into the housing, and is about 10 1/2 inches overall in length. The two wires are about 18 inches.

I currently have reproduction Fog Lamps on my 65. The original arms, pony and corral were rechromed and are in the TBD box of stuff with the housing.
The picture was taken before the rechroming.
