Running Change - 67 San Jose trunk filler board and fasteners

I searched but could not find this topic covered...for the trunk filler board I have observed "early" 67 using a fairly thick Masonite type product that is screwed down in two location.  "Late" 67 and 68 is more of a cardboard material, and if I recall had some bent tabs to hold in place, no fasteners.   Any corrections to that observation?  How about dates for the change?

I did find the attached Phillips screw with captive washer on 7R01C126 a week or so ago.  Looking through my pictures, I see the same thing on 7R01C140, as well as 7R01T145.

I see that 7R02T170 has the later version, as does 7R03C188.

It is hard to find this detail - a lot of them are missing, or covered with mats.  I did find some later model pictures with no mat, no board, and what appears to be no holes in the floor, indicating that the snap in cardboard type was used.

That is a correct observation. it was a early late transition . I assume at all plants .SJ for sure. The screws are available. I am not sure of the transition date at SJ let alone other plants and have always gone with -if it had the screws holes it got the early board and vice versa. Original trunk floors of course. if you don't have original floors then you have to compare with others built around the same time.

+1, I have 100% same thoughts as I read. (no date known to me at this time, so no opinion on the transition date(s) )

Agreed - 67 is the only year where they used two different styles.

As you have found - if the the car has not been damaged and repaired or restored the presence of the mounting screws for the board is the best IMHO indication of how the car likely came. Often you will find restorers that just go with what ever is handy, available or what they saw in a magazine or on a friends (sometimes 68) car has :(


This happens to be a column on one of the spreadsheets I try to keep up dated and without going back through my more recent pictures I show that I have the change taking place between 7R151500 and 7R159888. So around the end of December to first week in Jan like a few other changes.


1967 production year is full of these fun changes in process's, styles and designs   ::)

Our 11-04 -66 SJ GTA 7R03C129401 had the hardboard. I think I have a original board at the shop.

My 67 Shelby produced at San Jose in the end of January has the later type. 7R02Q17XXXX.

Interesting: My scheduled build date 11/01/66 (actual build date 11/2/66) is VIN unit number beginning 127XXX, DSO 71, Los Angeles (see image below for Marti Dates)   That's almost 2,000 units in 2 or three days serialized anyways.

Yes, Has the screws on the filler board and I have easy access to the ORIGINAL filler board if details are needed for duplicating one.

Happened all the time. We do have that one documented group of cars that were all finished in one day at NJ where the VIN's were up to 4,000 numbers apart and up to three weeks different in their projected build dates.

As for the other examples everyone is offering - thanks seems that the end of December - first week of Jan is holding true so far.
