Tie Rod Interchangeability - 65 6 cylinder
« on: August 26, 2016, 01:47:40 PM »
I don't have a Ford parts interchange manual handy.  Will power steering specific inner and outer tie rods and idler arm for a '65 6cyl Mustang fit/interchange on a '65 6cyl Comet?  My hunch is yes they would but I don't know for certain.  Does anyone have experience/information?

I'm converting my Comet from manual steering to power steering and need to change the tie rods.

thanks,
Matt

Matt,
I don't know if this helps, but according to the 75 MPC, 6 cylinder Mustang and 6 cylinder Falcon power steering tie rods are the same. If Comet used Falcon suspension components, then yes. What you need to do is find a Comet forum and ask just to be sure.
C4DZ-3A130-C - RH outer
C4DZ-3A130-D - RH inner
C4DZ-3A131-C - LH inner
C4DZ-3A131-D - LH outer
The sleeve for Falcons, C3DZ-3310-A does not say I6 or V8, but it says 1/2-20 threads. It is different for Mustangs.

Thanks Jim for the verification.  Yes the Falcon parts do interchange w/ the Comet more readily than the Mustang.  I am a member of the Comet Central Performance Forum and have received 2 confirmations that the Mustang steering parts will fit the Comet with the exception of the center link.  I appreciate you referencing your MPC.

thanks,
Matt
