Well one of the mounting tabs on my starter is broken.  It could very well be an original but I don't think its worth much with the tab broken.  How are the reproduction versions.  Is it possible or worth it to salvage anything from my original to put on the reproduction?

You might try your local auto parts store.  They might have some OEM rebuilt ones for sale.  Sometimes if you're real nice, they'll let you look through the boxes.

I almost always get my starters that way. I once pulled a C8 Cobra Jet starter out of a rebuilt starter box. Could have ended up in a 79 F250 if I hadn't been there

If your starter has the correct numbers why
don't you just replace the nose? You can get
another starter for parts and switch the nose
portion.

That sounds like a good idea but any idea what would be the correct numbers for a 67 6cyl auto?

Maybe it doesn't matter since the exposed edges get painted anyway, but what do you use for the paper "gasket" under the band?  The original stuff appears to be a waxy brown paper of some sort?

You might try butcher paper if they still make and use that stuff -
