1969 parking brake handle
« on: August 22, 2016, 07:55:28 AM »
Hi guys !

as remember : i've an early 1969 ( august 1968 ) my parking brake has been fixed by a previous owner , i found a used one in good condition , but the handle is different

Here are two pictures : the black one is in the car , the chrome one is the replacement one.

my question is have you some "black plastic " one in your cars ? i'm correct to think that early 69's could have this one and the chrome one arrived after?

thanks for your answers.

Guillaume

2 size threaded rods & bends on the shaft along with 2 sizes of threaded hole in chrome 69 handles black plastic replaced the chrome handles somewhere in the 70 run on later 70 cars. there is a date code on the assembly down by the pedal

Ed,
I checked the MPC and there is three listed as you mentioned for the 69-70's
1969 C5AZ-2750-A
1970 C9ZZ-2760-A "Before 1/5/70"
1970 D0ZZ-2760-A "From 1/5/70"

The chrome handle in my May 69 looks just like the one that was in my dad's 65 Galaxie 500.

that's because the chrome handle was sold separately under a c5az #& is a 65 galaxie part originally & I took many off parts cars in yards out west rustfree

hi ! thanks for all this answers ,

sorry my english is not perfect , so if i resume the chrome one is the older , then  they changed for the black painted one, and finally in may 70  for the plastic black one? am i correct ?

if i'm correct , for an august 68 car i should have the chrome one ? true ?

another question ( sorry for my lack of knowledge ) what is MPC ( manual parts something ? ... )

Chrome knob with thin handle rod( early production) then chrome knob with thicker handle rod then late 70black plastic knob with thick rod.  Never a black painted knob.  Its mainly the rod on early cars as it was too thin & often broke or bent where it was attached to the pedal assembly. So ford changed to a thicker diameter handle rod & changed the angle of the rod bend to strengthen the pedal release set-up.  Problem is when finding the chrome c5az knob for a 69-70 mustang & cougar park brake assembly you have to have the chrome knob to match the threaded rod diameter. Ford used the same chrome knob but the threaded hole in the chrome knob was the next size bigger threaded hole to use on the bigger (or thicker) rod on the improved version.

Ed,

Is the C9ZZ handle chrome or black plastic?
Here's the C5AZ & the DOZZ handles

Thanks

it would be chrome as the dozz is  the only plastic knob  but t he whole pedal assembly is c9zz # with chrome knob & the dozz# is on the whole assembly with the black plastic knob.

These came up at work today.
The C5AZ-2760-A chrome handle has 12-24 threads.
The C9ZZ-2760-A chrome handle has 1/4-20 threads.
The D0ZZ-2760-A black plastic handle has 5/16-18 threads.
The D???-2760-? black plastic has no threads, but press fit onto the knurled rod end. Have one example of this in the yard, plus my customer had one too. I am thinking service replacement?
