64.5 Shell weight
« on: August 18, 2016, 05:49:59 PM »
Approximately how much will a 64.5 mustang convertible that has been stripped down to basic frame weight?  The motor, undercarriage, interior, doors, hood, deck lid and rear quarters panels have been removed. I have to move it and because all of the rain I cannot get a trailer in the back yard so will have to move by hand and don’t know how many people I will need.

Start with the car weighing 2700 pounds:
now subtract -
- 5 wheels and tires - 200 pounds -
- Engine, assumed a 289 - 450 pounds -
- Transmission, C4 - 150 pounds -
- Rear axle, drums etc - 150 pounds -
- Seats, front and rear - 200 pounds -
- Front suspension - 150 pounds -
- Radiator - 40 pounds -
- Doors - 120 pounds -
- Hood - 100 pounds -
- Trunk lid - 50 pounds -
I see 1090, which includes carpet and glass. What are you describing as "rear quarters"? Anything else you remove is a bonus.

Missing:
- Bumpers and brackets - 100 pounds -
- Front fenders - 120 pounds -
We are now at 870, which I will state is way too low, but you get the idea of what you are faced with.

Thank you for your reply.  I was referring to rear fenders as rear quarter panels.

Took us 4 strapping young men to lift a bare shell of a 66 convertible onto a trailer. We figured it was around 750 lbs completely naked.
