Whats it worth? 68 Coupe
« on: July 31, 2016, 06:47:11 PM »
Found this 68 coupe in my local paper. Car has been 4 blocks from my house and I have never seen it. Anyway owner had it appraised 2 years ago at $11,500, car has original 289, auto trans with power steering. Sunlit gold with black interior with factory bench seat, the current owners father bought the car new. New quarter skins were installed some time back and a new paint job. Car now needs paint again but is mostly rust free. Owner want 12,000 for the car but I feel this is excessive, so what's it worth???

Go to http://www2.nadaguides.com/ and enter the specifics under classic cars, top of the page. Be honest with yourself in your evaluation. The figures shown there are a bit high. Do a thorough inspection of the car, and be honest with yourself (not redundant). That's the starting point. (You asked, so you are not hooked or absolutely sure.)

Can't see "side markers" ???  Don't 68's have them (unless quarters/fenders replaced with 67)

All 68s had side markers, the early ones were painted and recessed. The latter ones had chrome bezels and were surface mounted.

+1 thinking the change came sometime in Jan 68.

2/1/68

Have cars documented later than 2/1/68 built at San Jose with the recessed rear marker lights

Possibly a example of a start date vs. a finish date (build date).

Possibly a example of a start date vs. a finish date (build date).

Don't think so in this example if your comparing 2/1 to the 2/15 dates. On my example that is only 2 day from start to finish, so even with that its almost two weeks later than that - difference between his finished date and this examples start date.

A car (such as his VIN indicates) finished on 2/1 was likely started on maybe Jan 22rd

Would agree - if that is what your considering - that in this discussion the start date is more important than the end date given the focus. Stated a new thread to focus just on the 68 rear marker change over discussion rather than continue it here   ::)
