67 Spring in ignition switch?

Does anyone know if there is supposed to be a small spring in the ignition switch (67) between the lock cylinder and the slotted portion that actuates switch positions?   I have read somewhere that this spring puts pressure onto the switch plates to prevent intermittent contact?
It would be exposed once the switch cylinder is removed - and should be down in the center of the switch housing held in with white grease.

I'm trying to track down a phantom problem with intermittent cranking (intermittent actuation of starter solenoid).

Any help would be appreciated - thanks, Kurt.

I would not be surprised if the problem is the solenoid. Have you tried another one? I have had several switches apart and there is not a spring under the cylinder.

I found this picture from Mustang Monthly article showing a 65/66 switch with the spring.   Since 67 is similar, I thought it may be the same.
I've swapped solenoids and the intermittent problem persists.  I can usually make it work by jiggling the key in the crank position.  I had recently removed the lock cylinder and thought maybe I,d lost the spring.   
I also removed the cylinder from another 67 and found no spring there - maybe this is just a 65/66 thing.
I guess next step is to try a new ign switch unless anyone has a better idea.   Hate to change out the orig. date coded switch.

65/66 ignition switch is ALTOGETHER different. in 1968, the switch changed again too! (68's dropped the accessory post from the back side, key cylinder stayed the same)

65-67  Ford products with a REVERSIBLE KEY, use an ignition switch that was updated in 68 because of problems with excessive electrical current loads of high-optioned cars.  If the key is NOT a Reversible one within the 65-67 model years, the switch and everything about the switch is entirely different too.
