Timing cover gasket
« on: June 18, 2016, 09:47:10 AM »
My 68 Shelby GT350 has the timing cover gasket showing between the block and cover.
Do I paint right over it,trim it etc?

I've always painted over mine. Looked good. I've always heard engine was painted as an assembly.

Use the search feature more. It's in there. As a trial run, and as you already know the answer, search the situation and see what turns up.

As far as trimming it before you paint it depends on the gasket (provider) and how it looks compared to original examples. So need trimming others don't

There are numerous threads showing pictures of 68 small block cars that can be used as reference (within reason)  always good to double check since PO's can change out things but you should be able to identify patterns and practices. Since the engines were built at the same place car assembly plants don't make a difference in these particular questions like they do others
