67 Pop Open Gas Fuel Cap Original Letter Discussion

NOTE: This discussion was split from another (Wanted Ad) since it got off thread a bit  ::) and move to a section of the site better suited for further discussion

Hm....I got one for free from Bob. Really appreciated. But it is red coloured.

I'm still looking for one in black.  If I could not find any NOS in that color, I think about to re-color mine.

I gonna give the red one to smb in GER for a 68, also for free.

FYI the chrome on the pot metal emblem is the most important part. I or many others could have stripped the red paint off and easily repainted it black and you would never have known the difference. The red or black paint on the emblem is nothing special. Is your car original paint or repainted?   The same difference but on a larger scale in the case of the car body.

The same amount of sheen as the NOS red letters on the one I sent you. Same thing just in black.

Thx Jeff, but this thread 2015 did not continue, no solution in there to my question.

Another question beside how to dismantle the emblem which couldn't answered so far.

Taking about a NOS part as well:
If the plate arround the GT emblem does have some "pitting, scratches or outside dents", would it be possible to buff/polish it or to apply another technology to make it close(r) to mint?
Don't wanna glue on a NOS or repo plate.

Don't believe so unless you can figure out how to remove a consistent amount of face material off the whole surface, tapper the dome so it does not become noticeable and figure out a way to return the original pattern/texture to that surface

Might be doable - just don't know how one would do it and if (other than a sense of accomplishment) it was worth the effort.

As for refinishing and replating the whole thing people are doing it. Just hasn't been me - though I have seen the positive results on cars judged
