'65 Visors - Hard Cardboard
« on: June 19, 2010, 01:34:05 PM »
When I bought my 65 Mustang it had hard cardboard visors with a plastic edging stitched around the visor.
They of course were disintegrating and I replaced them in '71 with the plastic/foam visors that are still available from the parts houses.

The hard cardboard visors were the same size as the 'new' plastic/foam visors.  Did the Falcon have hard cardboard visors?
The original hinges and posts all worked with both sets of visors as I could afford the 'new' plastic/foam visors but, not the hinges and posts back then.

Does anyone know of the hard cardboard visors or where to get a repo?

The sunvisors you describe are the "standard" sunvisors for your car.  The Padded Sunvisors were an option.  The Standard sunvisors are not available as a reproduction that I know of.

Agree with Brant.

NOS visors are your only option.  Most originals warp up or disintegrate like yours.

Any suggestions on where to look for NOS hard cardboard visors?

I have checked several of the big name supply houses but found only the padded visors.

Thanks...

Ebay, Hemming's, obsolete parts dealers.  Sorry, but not as easy as picking up a catalog.

Keep in mind that convertible is different than coupe/fastback, even with the cardboard ones.

One last thing... it wouldn't be that far-fetched to consider making them.  The trick would be to get the right thickness material with a grain pattern.

Yeah, Great thread...I'd heard of these years ago, but never seen the "EL CHEAPO" Ford visors... Was this just a '65 thing?  I'm "guessing" it was...Since I've never seen andy '66's with them..By then there were probably standard.

Yes Tony, it was a '65 thing.  Padded visors became std. equipment in '66.

I believe I have a black convertible one, NOS, but it's probably over at the storage unit.  They basically look the same as the padded visors, just made with the fiber material.

Charles, so are the just covered cardboard (moonskin for coupe, vinyl for vert) or painted cardboard.

Mine from my 1965 were just painted cardboard. I'll post pictures tomorrow.

Yes, just painted fiber board (I hesitate to use the term cardboard.)

Thats the hard card board '65 visors for sure.  I had the white visors versions.
When I replaced them (1971) the threading was coming apart and visor edge was opening up.

Were there other colors besides white and the pictured black?  Was there a coordinated color scheme for the interior?
I think I read that all '65s had a white headliner, is this correct?

Yes, they were color coordinated.  Even with convertibles.

I know this isn't the correct section, but in the event that you were going to attempt to fabricate a pair of these.I have a pair of originals(used, obviously) that I would be willing to sell very reasonably as I will never do anything with them. I don't have them handy at the moment but if you're interested ,I can dig them out.
