Large bearing waterpump

Does anyone know when the change from the C7 small bearing waterpump to the C8 large bearing waterpump occurred on the 390??

I believe the waterpump changed to the C8 engineering number with job #1 68 production. I think C6 FE waterpump  not C7.

Thanks Bob. I forgot that the small bearing had a C6 #.
So theoretically it would be possible to find a C8 pump with a 67 model casting date?

I have a guy suggesting that a 68 pump could be correct for my car ... IF, the casting date is earlier than motor assembly date. I didn't think the pump was one of the many updates thru the 67 year.
Any guesses as to when they started producing the C8 pump?

I thought the big bearing pumps started in '69 with the C9AE. That's how Jack has them listed at deadnutson.

I don't mind being wrong .... as long as I find out.
Back to finding a late C6 casting.

As I said in reply #1 the C8 waterpump started being used for job #1 68 production, That means starting on cars built for 68 production. Although there are rare instances where a newer year marked part was used on a earlier year car (1970 DO spindles on a 69 Shelby production comes to mind ) The waterpump issue is not one of them. The C6 pump would be used on a 67 production regardless of of date code.

The bearing size info is difficult to find. I haven't been able to find references in any Ford publications that I have access to. So I'll list it here for future reference.

Small bearing: Dead Nuts On sells replacement bearings with a 1.181" OD. My C8AE-H pump (dated 7L28) matches this size.

Large bearing: Per Dead Nuts On, the bearing OD is 1.50". C9AE-A has this size, but I don't have one handy to confirm.

It's not super obvious how to find the water pump kits on their website, so here's a link: http://www.deadnutson.com/page/page/2965331.htm    I'm not affiliated with them in any way, but I do plan to have Jack restore my alternator.
