I want to get an opinion on the paint markings on this October 1965 build C Code with AT. It looks like two white stripes and one yellow dot. They look original to me.  Is this consistent with what others have found? Thanks

First I've got to report that I over the years have not found allot of 65-66 drivelines with nice markings (other than the ones with the stencils markings) and with all the swapping around that has taken place not always sure what is original to the car and what is not. At yards and with cars apart drivelines are often one of the first things to be removed and thrown in a pile with a few hundred more often never marked to identify where they came from. Might have 200 examples total at this time

Also it appears that it was not unusual for the markings to change (likely related to some engineering change) during the year so we can at times find three different markings for the same application depending on when the driveline was made and used

So with that said I offer the following

The yellow mark is likely the locator mark to identify that specific rear "ear" of the yoke. It is sometimes on the ear and much larger  or this dot depending on what time period so that mark does not relate to the identification. Ford documentation discusses them adding this detail/feature to address a common complaint that was producing vibrations in the operations of the 65 Mustangs

You have identified your drivelines as having two white stripes on yours and I'm sure you have rubbed, cleaned lightly polished an area to remove the top surface to get a really good look at the original color since a surface white, pink, light yellow or tan can often look like the other.

Looking at my pictures I find an example that was posted to the internet and identified as a

- 66 V8 none K code automatic trans with no date  that had a visible white stripe at one point on the driveline

- 66 6 cylinder automatic drivelines (same tube size as a V8 car in this application) with two white stripes (2 unknown addition stripes forward)  like your example from approx Jan 65

Sorry don't have any additional help at this time Hopefully someone else out there will have a similar application that can lend some help

Going off of memory, my 1966 April C code with AT NJ FB has what looks to be a white stripe with yellow dab next to it and the 2nd stripe is pink. If possible I will try and get a pic here in the next day or 2.

Thanks to you both for the speedy reply. I need to let the Evaporust do it's job over the next couple of days to get the exact color.  Right now the stripes, in person, look white, but they could be light pink or tan.  That locator dab is certainly a bright yellow.

Sorry I have not had a chance to take a pic yet. I will try and do it in the morning. How did yours come out from the evaporust bath? I will also see if I can get a shot of the part number that is around the center of the driveshaft as well.

Since those are all the same (one the drivelines they did appear on) and only the date varies it wwill be interesting to see how it compares to your cars projected build date

Unfortunately it is raining so I cannot move the car out and get the driveshaft to rotate. The yellow dab of paint is on the other side of the driveshaft as well as the part #. I did find an old pic I took of the part number but you cannot read all of the part number because of the camera flash. I Can read ?9078 - ?4? off of the pic. Expecting good weather tomorrow so will get a good picture of the # and yellow paint then.

Thanks for the photo.  The stripes are in about the same location as mine. So the rear stripe looks white.  the more forward stripe looks like a light lilac. I did not do a good job on the Evaporust, so I need to put more on and wrap it better. I would say my rear stripe is white, now I need to confirm the forward stripe. I was using an LED work light. I need to take the car outside and see how it looks in natural light. The yellow dot is certainly yellow. I will post when I have better photos.

You need to take the driveshaft off and submerse it for the evaporust to work best.

The tubing number should be 19078- (followed by a code )  in yellow paint using a stencil font. Have pictures of 4E, 4W and 4S on 1966 examples

Phill, That is an excellent photo. Can you make out any stripes on the driveshaft or a yellow dot? I have a yellow dot over the white stripe near the rear universal. A second stripe further to the front seems to be white or perhaps some other light color on mine. AU SNK has the same yellow dot over a white stripe and a light lilac stripe. I am trying to collect data on C-code autos.

I can confirm a yellow dot or at the end near the universal and the paint stripes are Yellow and Pink but are further away spacing wise from the image already provided and the stripes are only two inches apart.

Sorry I don't have a picture to provide as I have yet to clean/detail this area.

Phill, Thanks for the information. That's good for the 1966 C-code automatic data base. if you have a chance at any time in the future to post a photo, please do so.

I can confirm after a few days in Evaporust that my stripes and dot are pretty much like AU SNK. Near the rear universal a yellow dot slightly over a white stripe and then further forward up the driveshaft another stripe. this one can be described as lavender, lilac or pink depending on the lighting, camera or monitor used.
