What was the verdict? Would it be different for a SJ car? Would a GT be chrome?

Thanks!

My opinion is that it could be ether. The SJ built 67 Shelby's for instance were supposed to be chrome but about half it seems got zinc. A GT had chrome dipstick and valve covers so which match's better?

IMHO the car being a GT had no impact on the radiator cap finish

I would have a problem justifying a chrome radiator cap on a car that did not have the other chrome dress up items like the factory chrome dip stick, valve covers breather cap etc. Not so much the zinc cap other way around just because I have seen that many times before .

That makes total sense and is certainly something I will take into consideration.

Although my car is not a GT, the PO tried to pass it as one and it has the chrome air filter, valve covers and dipstick. This particular car is more of an experiment for me and will likely never see a concours event. I drive it ocassionally and work on it with my kids. However, when items do need addressing, I would like to make it as correct as possible. I plan to keep with the GT theme (but will never advertise as such). Right now I need to flush the cooling system and take care of a slight heating issue when running in traffic...will replace thermostat, but can hopefully avoid water pump.

Thanks
Bill

A good investment is a high flow style thermostat . These have solved over heating issues for me in the past compared to the generic auto parts store variety. I typically uses a 160 for hot humid KC . Others use a 180. here is a link to what it looks like. 1967 was when Ford changed to the smaller diameter thermostat so verify smaller instead of the larger pre 67 style.  https://m.summitracing.com/parts/mrg-4363
