I believe I have a '69 390 snorkel here. From what I've read I can just remove the reducer on the end (it appears to be held on with two spot welds) and I will have a correct 428CJ Q code snorkel.

1. Is this correct?
2. Is there a market for the 390 snorkel? (I'd rather help out  a 390 guy and trade for a CJ snorkel as I'm guessing the 390 snorkel would be more rare)

Sell your 390 snorkel and buy a 428 snorkel and have cash left over

There is more than one thing you have to change and after that you'll likely be able to tell its been made up from another.

Agree with 7Lscjracer. Just inspect or use someone you trust to buy the CJ one from.

Upon further research it seems there is a difference between the '69 390 snorkel and the '69 Boss 302 snorkel, but I can't seem to find exactly what the difference is?????

Can anyone here tell by looking at the picture which one I have and why??

Just looking at it logically, the FE snorkel should be longer because those motors are wider than a Boss 302.
I'm wondering what you have now too since looking at your pic again and seeing the smaller footprint mounting flange like 428, but the secondary S tube adapter like 390 (or others? - that is the question.)
Need more pics and measurements.
The only snorkel I have kicking around is for a 69 351W 4V.
Your air cleaner bowl does have the correct metal pcv elbow.

Great minds think alike!! I was just looking at that same post! From what I can see it appears I have a 390GT snorkel. You were correct. It appears the Boss 302 snorkel is a bit shorter.

I don't have my snorkel handy for measurement, but I'll double check when I'm at the shop.

The 69 Boss snorkel has a shorter kick back.  I have a 390 GT and a couple of 428 snorkels here and other than the step down, they look exactly the same to me.  Nice find.

Ok, the 390 GT explains the small footprint mounting flange unlike the larger footprint mounting flange on the later 390 IP, although both have the same double ring for the S tube.
How about a picture of your air cleaner bowl?

It has the 1969 air cleaner base and chrome lid.

If you drill out the spot welds at the reducer and remove you have a 69/70 CJ snorkel. Same same

Do you still have the 390 snorkel? My car is a 390 and I have a CJ snorkel and a 390 adapter that someone drilled out so I was going to turn it into a 390 that way. Might be interested in trading if you are.
