Lets decode some markings - 07/64 dearborn spindle
« on: May 05, 2016, 11:09:46 PM »
another for discussion.. passenger spindle after taking an evaporust bath - july 64 dearborn v8 with power steering

1st pic - behind where the spindle mounts to the front wheel area -red stripe and maybe something else

2nd pic - looks like it could be a white daub near where it bolts to the UCA

3rd pic - pink /white - heading towards the tie rod area...

thoughts? thanks in advance

Never seen markings that large, that color or that general area as shown in #1

# 2 Upper arm near knuckle  seen that before

#3 Do have other examples around the same time and plant as your markings - typical though colors change depending on time period it would appear

Would help if you included the casting number from the spindles as another form of identification - just a though. I started doing this once I started collecting spindle info from spindles already detached from their original car

for pic 1 - i couldnnt tell if it was a single reddish stripe next to some other crap that hasnt washed off yet. i need to go through some older pics when stuff was together to see what i have.

i will get part/cast numbers and post them tomorrow... have a feeling if i get up now - iwill work through the night doing stuff and i need tomorrows work to pay for some of the parts i am ordering

Thanks - that info let me check my old hand written notes - unfortunately none with that number listed on those pages. So no additional examples to share

Could be mistaken but in pic 1 the spindle looks as if it has been repaired
Looks like a crack from top to bottom
Looks like a weld and then die grinder marks
Worth a closer look

Agreed it appears sometime has taken place. Scary thought though of using a welded spindle

thanks. I am still in the process of cleaning it up and will surely get looking at this more closely.
