'68 CJ hood stripe
« on: May 04, 2016, 02:12:33 PM »
Looking for the stripe dimensions for a '68.5 Cobra Jet hood. Tried searching on the forum, but had no luck. Maybe i'm not doing something right. Could someone suggest a link.
                                        Thanks, Pete.

Don't believe a picture/drawing has been posted on this site. Mustang Monthly decades ago published a small (quarter page) drawing with a couple of measurements and some paint suggestions that were current (available) at the time

It shows a width at the leading edge of the hood to be 15 1/8" and at the hood to cowl width of 17 3/8" For original/concours detail remember that these were painted with the hood on the car so you would find on an original car a small amount of overspray possible on the hood trim and bottom windshield molding since they were installed when the stripe was applied. Also the one windshield wiper post was not normally masked off (wiper not installed at the time) except for the very top knurled area where the wiper arm would slip over

I do have a copy of that page if you would PM me I'll email you a copy but out of respect for copyrights I'll refrain from publicly posted unless I can completely redraw the illustration

Hope this helps

Pete,

What kind of 68.5 do you have?  I have several unrestored 1968.5 Mustangs.  Let me know if I can be of any help.

The car actually belongs to my brother. It's a raven black with red 'c' stripe and red interior, 4-speed, 4:30 gear, fastback. He has owned it since 1985, and it was ordered new by Sandy Elliott Motors in our home town of Chatham,Ont. Canada. Remember the 'Border Bandits' drag racing team? That car and a twin red fastback were ordered at the same time.
He also owns a 68.5 Cyclone cobra jet that came from Sandy Elliott Motors. I bought the Cyclone as a parts car for my '69 Fairlane Cobra, and my brother decided to restore the car rather than part it out.
Our little town was quite a hot bed for cobra jet cars, thanks to the success of the Border Bandit drag racing team, and many of them are still around.
Thanks for your offer, and will keep in touch.

There is a current 68.5 hood discussion on the 428 Registry with some good information. https://www.428cobrajet.org/forum/

To others preaction has participated in that discussions and I think he was asking for additional input from members here that don't participate there or didn't see that thread.

Sorry don't have any examples in pictures of the 68 CJ hood stripe paint on the lower front windshield trim or from any of the other years and applications found on Mustangs that I remember

Older post. Maybe something we could focus on in a new thread or an extension of this (since this thread is titled for the 68 CJ). Believe members here could produce a more focused and complete description as well as details.
