Since the RH one of my original bars has a small crack & slightly bent AND all parts would also need re-chromed to be perfect ( I could MuggyWeld the crack)...I thought I might try other ideas. NOS is getting tough to locate. I found a NOS horse & corral that only needs a little re-paint work so that should work there instead of re-chroming the original.

Has anyone bought these California Pony Cars reproduction Fog Light Bars? Are they close enough for a Concours Driven Class?

Here is one vendors description:

What's "Cooper" plating? It reinforces the bar and protects them from the elements?  ;D I can't speak for the fog lamps bars, but stay away from their fiberglass.

I went ahead and purchased a pair of these and the castings are built very much identical to originals except the factory casting marks such as "Prestolite" and engineering numbers.

I do not believe they are painted correctly, they seem to have left too much of the chrome visible. (area behind the fog light still chromed front and back, including the mounting area. The underside of these are also chromed and I suspect they would have been painted from Ford. Summarized, the reproduction are only painted on the top sides of the bars, the rest is all chromed)

I could use somebody inspecting their "known originals" to see what areas are chromed, where the paint is and where the paint is not.

Since I know that I had repainted my originals years ago, I am no longer positive how they may have been originally. Because of this, I just took a look through several pictures of other low mileage unrestored examples at this site. Not much help on this detail but it appears that the only portion of the fog light bar that is NOT painted is the narrow leading edge of the bars. This is how my originals that I repainted 20 years ago look today too.

Those look very well made. The plating is nicely done too.

Yes, the chrome is very mirror-like :) In image #2 of previous post, you can almost make out the mirror-image of my 67 Mustang logo within the patch on my  work shirt (seen in the reflection of me taking the picture)...Picture of my work shirt logo attached. I've had these on my uniforms as a company logo for over 12 years...I've used the logo on my checks and at times on company letterheads.

Getting back on track,
I still could use somebody looking closely at original Fog Light Bars to describe known original paint masking process to these, particularly: What should be seen as CHROMED after painting

Richard here is a original that I have for a project that I have not restored yet.
It is pretty much painted every where except for the ledges and the center of the cup. Hope this is what you needed.

Yes, this is how my originals were painted now (but I do remember that I had repainted them before, why I asked)...I suppose I'll need to repaint the reproductions the same way. Thanks

One last question that hasn't been answered regarding "Judging"...
If these were repainted correctly and since otherwise no notable differences except not being factory assemblyline parts, these would be acceptable in "Concours Driven", correct?

Richard,

Here are a few pics from an extra set I have.  Similar to Marty's but the center of the cup looks like it has more paint.

Reproduction parts are approve for both Concourse Driven and trailered class provided they look as and preform as the assembly line part. IMHO these would be fine if repainted.
