GT emblem location measurements
« on: April 12, 2016, 06:07:25 PM »
Hello all,
My 66 Gt has had guard replacements sometime through its lifetime. I need to put the correct badges on it and  would like to get the correct measurements for the location of the  GT emblem.
I know you can buy a stencil/template for this but I am limited for time.
can someone who has a genuine original 66 GT with original guards please measure from the BACK edge of the guard to the BACK edge of the GT emblem and another measurement from the style line through the side profile of the guard to the top of the GT Emblem. I am aware that there is an article on the Mustangs and Fords site, but I find the measurements to be confusing and am not 100 % sure that I have the correct positioning.
As I am from Australia, it would be a great help if someone out there could provide the measurements in a metric form (Centimeters / millimeters),

Kind regards and thank you in advance.

Richard Powell.

Richard,
What's a "guard"? I know "boot", "bonnet" and "petrol", but you put a new word out there. Oh, there's two GT Fastbacks in my garage in California, the third one is in Pakenham, Vic.

Richard,
This is the best I can do without removing the emblem. These measurements were made on the driver's side parallel and perpendicular to the ground.
From the rear edge of the fender to the upper right hand corner of the emblem - 12 9/16 inches.
From the lowest edge of the fender, following the curve of the fender up to the same upper right hand corner of the emblem - 13 1/2 inches.
That give you a datum point to make measurements for the holes (forward and down). Cover the area with masking tape and mark the corner point in pencil. From your badges, measure the distances from that corner to the pin locations and mark them. Remember, when you turn the badge over, it is a mirror of the hole location.
Repeat on the other side but the corner is on the opposite side of the badge.
Measure twice, drill once.
Now, what about the "MUSTANG" located lower on the fender?

Richard,
I believe there is someone that offers a "blueprint" if you will of locations. It simply lines up with a portion of the fender and you can center punch your holes and drill them accordingly. Give me a day or two and I will try and find the vendor I saw offering them.
