66 version day/night mirror in a 65
« on: April 02, 2016, 01:18:31 PM »
As you know, there were two versions of the day/night rear view mirror used between 65-66. The first version had a rocker lever, while the second version, typically used in 66, had a turn screw adjustment.

My 65, which has a buck date of June 29, 1965 and a scheduled date of July 8, 1965, has the 66 version with the turn screw.  The car has all the other components of the visibility group (two speed wipers and remote mirror), so I have no reason to think the day/night mirror is not original, but I've received questions of why I have the "66 version" in a 65 car.  I suspect that because my car was built so late in the 65 model year, it is likely Ford had already began using the new style, but I also recognize the mirror could have been changed over the years.

Does anyone have any examples of a late 65 with the "66 version" day/night mirror?

The day/night mirror changed styles in 65 around the time the Delux interior and GT package were introduced..

Hi Mike,

I know we've chatted about this in the past.  Is this true for all cars after those packages were introduced or only for Deluxe interior and GT package cars?

The day/nite mirror was part of the Visibility Group, which was a standalone option.

Hi Charles - based on a prior conversation I had with Mike I was trying to determine if only the Deluxe interior and GT package cars received the '66 style mirror in 1965 in combination with the Visibility Group OR if all cars received the '66 style mirror in combination with the Visibility Group after the introduction of the Deluxe Interior and GT packages.

Ron

The twist style mirror would have been available on all models once it was introduced into production.

I agree with Charles. On later cars don't usually see the rocker style.
