67 390 power steering pump
« on: March 13, 2016, 05:16:53 PM »
I haven't payed attention to this lately but IIRC there are two pump housings, one style for small block and one for big block I believe it has to do with the way the and shape the hard line as it exits the housing and there may be or not, a hose bracket I don't remember which is which to verify I have a correct one. I don't remember if this is one year thing or over all years. Theres a lot to this so I will stick to the  reservoir housing for now.    So I took a chance and looked on mustang tek and they have all power steering pumps listed but only a picture of one, HBA-BF which is for my application go figure.

i believe you will find that the hose brackets weren't used on 67 but rather 68 if at all .Some 68 applications didn't have them ether.

Mustang Tek is good, though I have heard not everything is correct.
Though the site displays strangely at times in firefox, http://www.stangerssite.com/steeringsysteminfo.html has some good info. on the old Thompson P/S pumps.
West coast Cougar site shows the bracket in attachment as being correct for all 1967 V8s.

I have seen that bracket and have one but didn't see it in a 67 thanks. We all know a power steering pump has an ID tag with it and its easily removed or changed for that matter, does the tag identify a certain pump housing or is there a difference between the pump internals too.

Pump tag identifies the application - pump and housing together

My '67 Shelby has the strap bracket as above.

That is the correct bracket for 67 . Obviously it's purpose is not to hold hoses but is for added support of the backside of the pump.

The ID tag is as much to identify the reservoir can as it is for the internals . The aftermarket replacements are generic in nature so luckily not much difference on the internals. FYI although nice to have the correct tag for the application, having "A" tag of some kind is most important. The shape of the tag is visible . Once painted and attached it is very hard if not impossible to read the tag on the car especially on a air car.
