Wiper Motor Differences
« on: June 08, 2010, 02:05:16 PM »

Trying to find an answer to a question. The windscreen wiper motor for 80-83 is listed as D8BZ-17508-B whereas the motor for 84-86 is E4ZZ-17508-A. Does anyone know what the differences are??

I'm assuming that it's something like an electrical connector because the only pics I have of these, on an 83 GLX and an 86 SVO don't show that area but the motors look the same. I'm hoping to use the D8BZ part if it will work for my application, 84 SVO, or modify it to fit.

If you've got pics, especially of NOS parts, even better.

Chris, why are you trying to use the earlier part number? If you still have the original E4ZZ part, it can be replated back to new condition.

Max, I understand this and do indeed have 3 or 4 of the E4ZZ motor in good used condition. I am also in the process of researching how to  do my own electroplating for such items, but currently I don't have the time to this sort of work. What I can do, is take the time to replace an electrical connector.

It's two things really. Firstly, there are NO(!!!) NOS E4ZZ wiper motors out there, trust me, I've looked, but there are numerous D8BZ units available. Secondly, it's an exercise in research and  trying to get a further understanding of Ford's part numbering system and the reason's for part number changes.

You know what is funny about this.  When I went looking for a NOS 79 wiper motor with the D9 part, they all had Zinc Dichromate covers on them.  I had to paint one black so that it would be factory correct.
