69/70 intermittent wiper box
« on: March 12, 2016, 01:54:14 PM »
Were 1970 cars ever equipped with the C9 intermittent wiper box? If so, what was the changeover date for Dearborn (or any others, for that matter?)
TIA

I know the '70 Cougars had that as an option, but I don't know the specifics of whether or not it was a "C9" unit.

Isn't the 1970 governer actually stamped C9ZB in the aluminum box, and has a white paper D0ZA label over the C9 number on the box ? I've never seen a D0ZA stamped box, but have one somewhere with the paper label over the stamping. If I had any idea where it was, I'd pull it out and post a pic of it ........

john you are correct  as have both here & also the nos blue parts box had dozz label.  The short tape with doza ink stamped on it just covered the c9za stamped on the box & the dash wiper switch (with wire lead off the side) was also in a dozz box & had doza # on backside of switch  so you need both parts to be correct.

Ed, do you (or does anyone?) have a picture of the D0ZA label? It might be worth making a run of labels.

According to the MPC - Looks like October 15 was the change over from the C9 to D0
69/70 "Before 10/15/69" (C9ZZ-17C476-B)
70 "From 10/15/69" (D0ZZ-17C476-B)

I got an nos 70 box here somewhere & would be easy to make tag  does anybody know why the change was done?  I think it was due to grounding or the wiring harness changes

Very small picture of a intermittent wiper box.  This one is for sale on Craig's list in San Diego.  Brian

Great pic, this explains a lot. I suppose the tape and ink stamp could wear off an original. I saw an early 1970 for sale with an ostensibly original  C9ZB box (Marti showed the option) and the build date was September 10. I figured there was a change over date but I guess not. My December built car was missing the box, although the holes were there.
