Original Seat Belts + Retractors 1967 Deluxe
« on: March 05, 2016, 10:59:06 AM »
Hi,
Would it be possible that smb could post some detailed pictures of original Seat Belts + Retractors 1967 Deluxe?

Need to see especially the zinc plates incl. screw (fixation floor body) and buckles.

Thx

A investment in a set assembly manuals would pay for them selves in answering many of your questions.

Ralf,
I'll scan pictures from the assembly manual for you. My  Shelby's belts are still out, if you need a picture of something in particular. Some don't realize you're in Germany and what it cost to buy, ship and pay for the VAT. Let me know what you need, I'll square you away.

Thx Keith.

In general, does the manuals have coloured pictures? That would be great. 8) Because I'm looking especially for the colour of the materials. ;)
May be I did not not clearly express this in my first post.
One of the reasons, I gonna do new zinc coating on the (floor) metal plates. Question to me....yellow or silver zinc plating.

Ralf, With the exception of the thick washers that goes on the carpet side of the seatbelt bolts and in your case, the rubber washers, it was all gold zinc. If you have original shoulder harness option, that changes things as well a little bit. The assembly manual are line drawings. It gives fastener numbers and the order of the parts for assembly. The bolt part numbers are coded that identify what finish a particular fastener used.
As for colors, there's not that many, so it should be pretty easy to figure out.

FYI - Because of the inner rocker panels that were used on the '67 Convertibles, the factory seatbelt retractors cannot be installed...

I do have a 67 Convertible, built as shown in my signature.

Seat belts LH/RH are currently w/o retractor. However, I could buy some "factory" FOMOCO seat belts which do have rectrators to exchange my current ones.

Thats the reason for my question as well. Does this car had factory seat belt retractors (rollup) driver/passenger? If not, would it make "sense" to build them in?

Thx.

Ralf : As noted by Paperback Writer, "Because of the inner rocker panels that were used on the '67 Convertibles, the factory seatbelt retractors cannot be installed...".  IMO, you'd have to do considerable modification in order to safely use the Factory retractors that were available for the other Models.
Attached is a picture of what I'm using on my Convertible; original Ford accessory, and correct for '67.

Means, I can not use these (unless a modification....which ?.... needs to be done):

My car came with deluxe interior factory (interior decor group). Nevertheless, Marti does not mention "Deluxe Seat Belts".

As others have said the convertibles did not come with retractors. You don't want retractors on a convertible unless they are the small optional assesory type for reasons already mentioned . NPD has a spot on repro of those in their catalog. Keep or restore the ones you have.

The main purpose to me....better and easier handling of the belt with retractor.

Ralf : Just to make it clear, the Retractors you pictured were "Standard" on all Models except Convertibles. The Deluxe Seat Belt Option included "Push Button Seat Belt Buckle Release" (as opposed to "fingertip" release, and the Seat Belt Warning Light. Retractors were not part of the Deluxe Seat Belt Option.

In the 1960-68 MPC, under "Front Seat Belt Assembly", for 1967 Mustang Convertibles, it specifically states (for both Standard and Deluxe Seat Belts), "Without Retractor". In addition, at the bottom of the listing it notes "For Retractors, See Accessory Section, Group 611A06", which shows the "Accessory Retractors I previously pictured.

To use the ones that were Standard for Coupes and Fastbacks would not only require major modification to the Rocker Panel, but could be an issue for your safety.

Unfortunately, those of us with Convertibles will have to settle for the "Accessory Roll-Ups".
