'67 ribbed tail light panel installation
« on: February 27, 2016, 04:06:01 PM »
Are the stock tail light gaskets used(or any other)when the factory installed the optional ribbed tail light panel?  I assume there must be some gasket used between the panel and the body?

Actually, there is nothing between the ribbed panels and the body. On the ends the tail light buckets and six studs and nuts hold them to the body and towards the gas tank cap, four studs, rubber wedges and acorn nuts hold them to the body.

Pete Morgan

Thanks....I figured since the stock trim has a rubber gasket under each of the three trim pieces, the ribbed panel would...guess the inside gasket will keep water out?

The panels are original Ford and the tail panel is original to the car....I see to fit these in(at least easily) the rear bumper will have to be removed.

Originals did have a sealant around all penetrations.   Material similar to that used for rear bumper brackets, quarter panel "gill" ornaments, etc.  I would use strip caulk.

Will try to find pics

Haven't found many sealer or gaskets between the ribbed panel and the taillight panels on original paint 67's with the option

Jeff, I've found on 2 of 3.  Of course I can't know all these years later that they were original.

I do see old sealant at the studs where they would go through the tail light panel and attach with the angled rubber washer and acorn nut, but nothing where they attach to the tail lights, so I'll assume the inside gasket is sufficient to keep moisture out.

I used black, 3M caulk around the holes and installed the panels with the original fasteners(black wedges and acorn nuts).  I decided to paint it black(semi-gloss).  I'm happy with the results.  I must have measured for the holes 5 times...not an easy feeling drilling new holes in the back panel.

Have a set of these I am debating installing.  No mounting hardware with the pair of panels.  Anyone got pics/dimensions of these "rubber wedges" and a part number for the nuts?

Lots of detail, pics and dimensions on previous posts.  Search should include "lower back panel grille" the term Ford used in various documents.

Been there, tried that...

Yep, a few old posts.  Most picture links are dead.  No size for the wedges, or part number for the nuts I can find...

The body assembly manual says:

C7GB-63424A50-A - seal lower back panel moulding - 4 required each side.  These are the triangular shaped rubber "washers".  Makes sense that all three body styles use the same part, but interesting that they made it a 63 instead of the typical default of 65.

376423-S100 crown nut - 4 required each side

I'll try to find/post dimensions on the rubber washers later
