65 K Code Engine Block Color
« on: February 20, 2016, 03:04:15 PM »
I am looking to refresh my 1965 Mustang K Code Engine.

My car was built in November 1964 at Dearborn.

I know the Block should be painted black but can someone confirm the finish on the Block. Is is Semi Gloss or Gloss Black.

Thanks for your help.

Semi-gloss, not too shiny.

Here's another for future reference.  Sprayed with single-stage urethane, flattened down.

Not plant-specific.  The paint could fade to the top, doesn't necessarily have to be a complete coat on the spacer.

I suppose that the members have already looked at the following threads and pictures in the Assembly Line Discussion area for tips and details

- Late 65 Production Year - Cleveland Engine Assembly Plant Picture & Discussion (in the close ups you'll see the carb spacers painted)

Fairly easy weekend fix.  If painting the spacer off the car, make sure you get paint on the outer edge of the lower gasket.

The Cleveland engine plant is where the 289 engines installed on the SJ assemblyline came from so they would be the same.

When you guys keep teaching a guy in his 50's new things all the time like this, I "have to" keep finding decent wine to toast learning this wonderful info with my lovely wife in the evenings...she does keep me grounded and less giddy, most of the time...
Ford Blue it is on the spacer. Thank you!
