a few 67 C code questions
« on: February 20, 2016, 06:14:08 AM »
Helping a friend get his 67 C code ready for the nationals here in Queensland in a couple months.  A few engine bay details came up today (my first look at his car) and I want to be sure the info provided is correct, as I am more familiar with 68's.

San Jose Dec 66 build C code coupe.

1. Thermostat housing and bypass and bypass clamps.  Painted with the engine.  Correct?  He was advised by some other local the Tstat housing was bare/silver, which I am not sure is correct.

2. PS pump housing.  Teal or black (I believe teal, he was told black)

3. PS pump mounting bracket.  Natural or black (I believe natural, he was told black)

4. PS pump dipstick handle/cap.  Zinc?

4a (oops!). Valve cover bolts.  Painted engine color or no?

5. Battery hold down clamp.  Same as '68, rubberized "handle" version, or different?

6. C4 Transmission Filler Tube/Cap color, believe tube to be black, cap and handle to be natural. Correct?

Any info appreciated.

1. All painted blue.

2. It could be either, the TRW was identified with a W in the bottom line of the tag and was painted black. The Ford Thompson was painted teal blue.

3. The bracket was natural.

4. The handle was painted on the TRW and natural on the Ford Thompson.

5. Battery hold down same as a 68 rubberized steel.

6. AT fill tube is semi gloss black and the handle phosphate and oil.

Yes you slipped one by Marty ;)

Painted

Also remember that often the response "natural" can mean "unpainted"  Does not mean it was not plated or treated in some way.

And thanks for providing all the year, month, engine and plant info. Sure your friend might not understand the possible importance of the details :)

Tell him good luck int he competition from all of us here

Yes, he is thinking he will win silver/gold. That is a tall order for a first timer.

But doing what we can to get it closer to correct than it is now... an eye opening experience for him yesterday, I spent 3 hours looking over the car and he was not really pleased with the length of the "issues list", about 30-35 primary items noted.  Which I am sure is nowhere near complete.

To me "natural" is "bare metal" (which can be variable finish depending of forged, formed or turned)... not plated... personally can't understand how silver zinc, zinc dichromate, etc can be called "natural" as is an applied coating post primary manufacture.  But the details one must wade thru based on common nomenclature.

Thanks very much for the information.

That's why I wanted to mention it. The usage can be traced back to MCA and the verbage they have used for over 30 years.

Good luck with your efforts

Sorry I was running late when I posted this morning. I should have been more descriptive. On the dip stick I should have said that they were both zinc plated the TRW one was painted.
You are correct natural was not the best choice of words in that case.
