What color are the markings. How are they applied and in what pattern? Pictures? This is a Dec '66 GT 500 with a standard transmission.

Keith what are the engineering numbers on the short leaf? To make sure we're getting the right markings ;)

Think I know for sure just want to be rally certain

Also AC?  Thermactor?

Jeff, the original leafs are gone. So your guess is as good as mine in that regard. However, the coils and leafs I'd like to duplicate the markings.

Ok - so no AC or Thermactor - just a Dec 66, 4 speed, GT500. Correct?

If so rear springs were typically - single orange stripe on the short leaf (approx 1" wide with a brush) behind the rear end housing mounting pad

Will check the coil markings - in the middle of counting remote mirror shafts :)

Front coils - single orange stripe also is what I've found on cars like yours

Coil Spring Markings For GT 500 4spd no AC or Smog
« Reply #9 on: August 21, 2022, 09:09:01 PM »
The car I'm working on had two different front coil springs with different markings and the NOS set i got had even different colors. It is car #1354 gt500 4 spd, no AC, smog.  One spring that was on the car had gold, blue, and one white.  the NOS set had two blue stripes.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As we've discussed before in other threads the presence of a white spray stripe indicates that the coil spring did not test within the predetermined minimum necessary for that particular springs specifications. So as as not to waste it and the car not have issues with the way it drove and felt these marked springs were paired up on the line with another with the white stripes and then were installed as a pair on the same car. For the service replacements do you have the part number assigned to them.

I've never seen blue being used on front coil springs for our applications in 67 and unfortunately Ford MPC's don't list springs for 67 Shelby's  :( But of course if they did we would have to wonder if what they listed was the original springs or simply approved replacements.

- Can share that I do have a car built with just a 4 speed, no AC or Therm, a few weeks before your car that had evidence of a gold  & tan stripes but not a blue stripe.
- On a car 67 GT500 speed with no AC or Thermactor built about 400 cars after yours I have the pictures below if it's strip below

Here is a link to an earlier thread on the same subject Likely these will be merged in the near future  ;)
