1966 Dearborn Paint OK Sticker
« on: February 07, 2016, 03:17:54 PM »
I know that at the Dearborn Plant for most of 1966 MY they used a white square paint OK sticker with the letter "P" on it.  Should that capital P be red or black?  NPD sells a red P but I have seen a few cars purported to be original with a black P. Thanks!

Don't know as I don't have any examples from your period. I can offer that later cars used a red "P". There was one later example that showed a black "P" so its possible that both colors were used and possibly the colors indicated different inspectors during that production period

You can always just make a batch yourself.  Of course they will likely be more correct/like original but will only last a short time if exposed to water or humidity. Like the originals ;)

Did find an example in my files for a 66 Dearborn car from your cars period but it was of the trunk and the sticker that was typically placed there.

I can interject here... Here's a car from memory... Bob Perkin's Completely Original Super Low 56 Mile Black Mustang Hardtop. What a car.  A real time capsule.  It's probably the lowest mile Dearborn '66 Hardtop left in existence.

Notice the RED "P" Decal.  100% Original.  As for the Black "P" Decals, They may have been used at the same time, but were definitely used later as I have seen the Black ones used on '67 and later original Dearborn cars.

See weblink below:

It has all the pics of the car if you wish to download them all.

Thank you very much. That helps to clear up the use of the sticker for Dearborn built in 1966 MY.
