Jack and Jack Handle
« on: June 03, 2010, 12:48:55 PM »
I have two scissor jacks for my 65 C-Code Convertible.  One, I believe, is original.  It appears to have a date code stamp and a large number 2 stamped in it.  The other doesn't appear to have a date code and seems to be a slightly different size.  It may be aftermarket or from a later year.  Can anyone provide information about the scissor jacks and how to tell them apart?

Also, I have one of the black handles, but not the silver ratchet-style one, which I think would be correct for my car.  The local Mustang shop sells a repro for $59.95. There's an original for sale on eBay, but I can't tell much about the condition.  I may look at the salvage yard at the Mustang shop to see if they have anything.  Thoughts?

Thanks.

-James

Here are the pics.  On the first one, does the "7 B" mean its from  Feb '67? I don't see any codes on the second one.  Maybe it isn't a Ford jack or it's from much later?

Thanks.

I haven't gathered enough information yet to decipher date codes, but from what I've seen, not all jacks have them.

I also can't tell what this jack is because the determining characteristics are on top of the jack (the top of the flip top, and the ends where the threads go through).  Can you take a picture and post something so I can see that?

The top one (more rusty) is a 1969-70, the bottom is a 1965-66 and would be the right one for your car.

I'll let Charles chime in on the ratchets vs. flip style handles, but I think that the early cars had ratchets.
There are two ratchet style handles for the early cars, one with an "open" handle, which is the 1964 1/2 - 1965 cars and the 1966 handle they "rounded" or "crimped" the handle.

There are many different styles of lug wrenches, if you have one with a hole in it, it would not be correct for your car, if it has a hole, it is for Feb 67 or later because they changed the mounting the jack to be on top of the spare, and the handle was on top of the jack.

Post a pic and we can figure out what you have there.

It does have a hole in it, so it must be for a different year.
Here's a pic.
Thanks again.
